Pat Robertson’s Haiti Comments Slammed by Haiti Ambassador to the US (video)

Pat Roberston Haiti comments

Pat Robertson’s comment about Haiti being “cursed” because of a “pact made with the devil” has inspired several reactions since the televangelist said that on Wednesday. Robertson further said that the Haitians made the pact to be able to defeat their French colonizers during the 19th century.

On his show aired on the Christian Broadcasting Network, Robertson said, “Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French … and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, ‘We will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French.’”

“True story. And the devil said, ‘OK, it’s a deal.’ Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another,” Robertson added.

On Rachel Maddow’s show, Haiti’s ambassador to the US, Raymond Joseph reacted to Robertson’s remarks. Joseph explained to Maddow, Wednesday evening, that the Haitian slave revolt Robertson claimed was a “pact to the devil” enabled the United States and Latin America to prosper.

“What pact the Haitians made with the devil has helped the United States become what it is,” Joseph said.
