Peace Cup 2009 Semifinals: Aston Villa vs. FC Porto
Aston Villa will face F.C. Porto in the semifinals of the Peace Cup after their 3-1 victory last night against Mexican club Atlante.
Unfortunately, Stiliyan Petrov will miss the start of the new Premier League season after admitting it could be a few weeks before he can resume training after dislocating his shoulder.
Villa’s game tonight sees former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill face Porto for the first time since his old club controversially lost the UEFA Cup final to the Portuguese squad in 2003. O’Neill has also said that he might use several younger players in an attempt to give them some valuable experience.
Game time is 8:30 p.m. CET (2:30 p.m. ET) at Estadio La Rosaleda in Malaga, Spain.
UPDATE: Aston Villa reached the championship round of the Peace Cup with a 2-1 victory over Porto despite finishing with 10 men. Both of Villa’s goals were scored in the first half.
