PGA Championship: Watney Takes Lead, Woods 10 Behind

Nick Watney shot a 6-under 66 in the third round at Whistling Straits to take a 3-stroke lead going into the final day at the PGA Championship.

The 29-year-old Watney is leading two fellow youngsters, 21-year-old Rory McIlroy and 26-year-old Dustin Johnson, who both shot a 67 for a 206 total after three rounds. A stroke further is a group of three composed of Jason Day, Martin Kaymer, and Wenchong Liang, who shot a course record 64 in the third round. For the first time since 1992, the top six players going into the final round have not won a single major.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods is 10 strokes behind Watney after an unimpressive 72 in the third round, a high score considering that the average for the day was 71. Woods, who finished his second round Saturday morning, is currently in a tie for 31st place at 3-under 213. He would likely need to finish not lower than solo seventh to be able to contend for a spot in the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
