Philippine Azkals advance to AFC Challenge Cup (VIDEO)
The Philippines bowed to Mongolia, 2-1, in the second leg of their AFC Challenge Cup qualifier on Tuesday but was still able to advance to the group stage of the competition after winning 3-2 on aggregate.
The Azkals came into the match holding a two-goal edge from the first leg but they refused to sit on that lead as James Younghusband opened the scoring with a right-footed hit on the fourth minute. The Blue Wolves, however, equalized in the 21st through Lumbengarav Donorova, and stormed ahead in the 34th minute after Garidmagnai Bayasgalan scored on the rebound off a penalty.
Phil Younghusband, who played a big role in the first leg, failed to finish the game after suffering a hamstring injury.
The Philippine Azkals will be part of Group A where they will meet Myanmar, Bangladesh and Palestine in a single round encounter for the top two slots to the regular draw of the competition in 2012. Check out the highlights below:
