Plaxico Burress jailed for 2 years on gun charge
Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in jail Tuesday for gun possession. The NFL star pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in August.
Burress, who hopes to play professional football again once his sentence is over, accidentally shot himself in the leg with his own handgun last November in the VIP area of the Latin Quarter nightclub in Manhattan. He didn’t possess a license to carry the weapon in New York.
Buress began serving his sentence immediately following the hearing. With good behavior, he could walk in early June 2011.
The 32-year-old had been a rising NFL talent, having caught the Giants’ winning touchdown at the 2008 Superbowl.
