Playstation Phone Gets Previewed
Engadget gets a preview of a device that has been the subject in some websites and by several speculations during the last few months.
Still unofficial, the Playstation Phone, codenamed Zeus and dubbed “Xperia Play” – yes, it’s in the Xperia series, is a 4-inch (854 x 480) touchscreen phone and will run using the Adroid 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system.
Other hardware specifications include a 5-megapixel camera, a USB port, a microSD slot, 512 RAM and a single-core processor with a speed of 1 GHz. It is capable of 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, and an FM receiver plus transmitter.
The screen will be powered by a Bravia engine to sport a smoother video playback, though this is still to be confirmed.
Like most of the Xperia series it has the Timescape application. The Mediascape application however has been broken down to several widgets.
Regarding the games, they are said to be graphically within the range of the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and can be run via the application called PlayStation Pocket, which resembles the PSP’s XrossMediaBar.
Reports say that the device might get a spring 2011 release.
