Pope Encourages Flock to Use the Internet

Roman Catholic Church’s leader Pope Benedict XVI encouraged the members of the laity and the congregation to use the new digital media in spreading the Word of God.pope-benedict-xvi

In his message Saturday, January 23, His Holiness announced that the theme for the upcoming World Communications Day on May 16 will be “New Media at the Service of the Word.” It will address and salute technology in the service of evangelism.

He encouraged the priests to use the media so that they can be able to better reach out and form better relationships with the faithful, especially those who are across great distances. He, however, warned that they should still be manifesting their vocation more than their technological prowess.

The Vatican keeps a website which is accessible in several languages. It has recently launched a news channel in YouTube and has a networking site at Facebook.
