Premier League: Arsenal Dump Blackpool
Arsenal recovered mightily from last week’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool, as The Gunners shot the lights out at Emirates Stadium with a 6-0 demolition job of newly promoted Blackpool.
Theo Walcott showed what England missed when he was snubbed by Fabio Capello for the South Africa World Cup by punishing The Seasiders with a hat-trick. Walcott started his assault just over ten minutes into the match, netting a 12-minute goal that had the more than 60,000 people at Emirates Stadium at their feet. Andrey Arshavin scored from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute following a foul on Marouane Chamakh that had Blackpool defender Ian Evatt hitting the showers early.
Walcott scored his second goal in the 39th minute while Abou Diaby made it 4-0 for Arsene Wenger’s boys three minutes after the restart. Walcott completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute before Chamakh ended The Seasiders’ misery with an 82nd-minute header.
In other matches: Stoke City 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United 6-0 Aston Villa, West Ham United 1-3 Bolton Wanderers, Birmingham City 2-1 Blackburn Rovers, and Everton 1-1 Wolverhampton.
