Premier League: Arsenal vs. Aston Villa
Seventh placed Aston Villa hosts Arsenal in another exciting Premier League clash and the Gunners can go back to the top of the standings with a victory over Martin O’Neill’s side.
Arsenal was surpassed by Manchester United with a Wayne Rooney-inspired 4-0 demolition of Hull City at the weekend, but a triumph for the North Londoners will take them back into pole position—depending on Chelsea’s result against Birmingham.
Tonight, Arsene Wenger’s men begin a difficult run of fixtures against Villa before facing the Red Devils, the Blues and Liverpool in a series of games that could make or break their season.
The Gunners last won the title in 2004 and their excellent run of form of late has seen them force their way back into the title battle.
Wenger is expected to restore several players rested for the FA Cup defeat at Stoke. He will recall goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and his first choice back four, with Nicklas Bendtner and Samir Nasri back on the bench after injuries.
The Villains, meanwhile, have failed to win their last three EPL matches despite making the League Cup final. They are without John Carew, Stephen Warnock and Nigel Reo-Coker who have failed to recover from injuries, while Craig Gardner has finally joined Birmingham.
The match kicks-off at 19:45 UK (2:45 p.m. ET) at Villa Park, Birmingham.
UPDATE: The Gunners missed out on the chance to go top of the Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw by Aston Villa.
