Premier League: Chelsea vs. Hull City
Premier League leaders Chelsea take on Hull City tonight (19:45 GMT) at KC Stadium with the chance to extend their lead at the top of the standings. This game was originally scheduled to take place last month but had to be postponed due to bad weather.
A victory will take Carlo Ancelotti’s side four points clear on Manchester United and, more significantly, eight points ahead of Arsenal before the two London rivals collide at the weekend.
“It is a big gap,” Ancelotti said. “If we win this game, we then have the possibility to win against them on Sunday.”
A triumph for Hull, meanwhile, would see them lifted out of the relegation zone and into 14th spot. The Tigers are having a difficult time this term as their plan didn’t go well so far, and they have to fight each game with their back against the wall.
The Blues are expected to welcome Didier Drogba back into the starting XI but they will be without Michael Essien who is out with a knee problem, while Juliano Belletti (calf) is also sidelined.
John Terry has been in the headlines this week, but we don’t care about that. You can read the British tabloids if you want to know more about the England captain’s personal life.
The West Londoners have lost 13points on the road, but they are expected to beat Phil Brown’s men who have not recorded a single win in their last nine EPL matches this season.
UPDATE: Mouyokolo delivered the first goal of the match when he outjumped a number of Chelsea defenders to head home a 29th-minute goal for Hull. Drogba marked his return from African Nations Cup duty by notching his 20th goal in the EPL this season as the Blues settled for a 1-1 stalemate against Hull.
