Premier League: Chelsea vs. Wigan Athletic
Wigan Athletic will face Chelsea at DW Stadium this afternoon as they try to edge away from the Premier League relegation zone.
The Blues lead the standings with 18 points from six games and a goal difference of 12. The Latics, on the other hand, only have six points and a goal difference of -8.
Wigan have never beaten the West Londoners in the EPL. They have met eight times, with Chelsea winning seven and drawing one.
Carlo Ancelotti‘s side will also be boosted by the return of midfielders Yuri Zhirkov and Joe Cole. Both successfully overcame long-term knee injuries to make their comebacks in the midweek Carling Cup victory over the Rangers.
Didier Drogba is fit to play after being stretchered off against the Spurs last weekend. Only Olivier Kapo is likely to be ruled out with a knee problem.
Game time is 3:00 p.m. BST (10:00 a.m. ET).
UPDATE: The Latics grabbed their first win against the ‘Big Four’ teams of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea, which ended the Blues’ perfect record and knocked them off the top of the table.
