Premier League: Liverpool vs. Arsenal

A loss here wouldn’t be a disaster for Arsenal. And if the Gunners win, they would move into third place in the standings, six points behind Chelsea but with a game in hand.

The last time these two clubs met in the Premier League in April 2009, an explosive match occurred. At the end of a thrilling ninety minutes, the scorecard read 4-4 but for Rafa Benitez’s side it spelt heartbreak. The draw cost Liverpool a vital momentum in its bid for the 2008-09 title.

The Reds head into this battle on the back of yet another home defeat – this time to Italian side Fiorentina who sealed a 2-1 Champions League victory at Anfield on Wednesday.

However, they are boosted with the news that Fernando Torres is back from injury and desperate for a start. The Spaniard will see his first league action in 6 weeks after being out with a sports hernia and he believes he has to prove himself after an injury-hit campaign.

Technically Liverpool is still in the title race, and a win this afternoon would go a long way to restoring belief at the club. Steven Gerrard, though, feels every game now has to be treated as vitally important to their crusade.

The match kicks-off at 16:00 GMT.
