Premier League: Liverpool vs. Portsmouth

Liverpool takes on bottom-placed Portsmouth this afternoon (12:45 GMT) at Fratton Park looking to add more misery on Avram Grant’s side.

It is also a special event for Jamie Carragher as he plays his 600th game for the Reds. However, the Turks believe they are prepared to ensure it ends in frustration for the 31-year-old centre-back.

The financially-stricken Portsmouth fell to Chelsea in midweek, but it was a much better performance as Grant watched his former player Frank Lampard decide the game with a second-half penalty.

Rafa Benitez’s team, on the other hand, claimed a much needed victory last Wednesday, triumphing 2-1 over the Latics despite failing to take full advantage of their many goal-scoring chances.

Spanish striker Fernando Torres is likely to start and he’s aiming to add to his three goals in two previous appearances against the Hampshire side. Liverpool also welcome back Glen Johnson and Ryan Babel but Albert Riera still has a hamstring problem and is not fit to play.

UPDATE: Nadir Belhadj and Frederic Piquionne both scored for Portsmouth as the Turks beat 10-man Liverpool 2-0 to move level on points with West Ham at the bottom of the EPL.
