Premier League: Liverpool vs. Tottenham
Liverpool will meet the Tottenham Hotspur at the Anfield Arena for the Barclays Premier League match on Wednesday, January 20.
Liverpool team manager Rafael Benitez is still hoping to get as more points as possible when his squad clashes against Tottenham tonight to be in the table’s top four and gain their Champions League spot.
The Reds are currently down in seventh place in the EPL table with 34 points, a 4-point difference between fourth placer Tottenham. Benitez and his boys are struggling in the league with 7 losses in a span of 21 games.
Both of the teams have ambitions of entering the next season’s Champions League and this game could be the deciding factor on which team is more fitted to qualify. Among the two, the Spurs are more likely to gain the spot.
The game tonight will be difficult for Benitez because of injuries. Reds Captain Steven Gerard will miss out the game because of a hamstringproblem while Fernando Torres will have to rehab his knee. Both of the stars will have to sideline alongside Yossi Benayoun with (rib) and Glen Johnson (knee).
Kick-off is scheduled at 20:00 GMT (3:00 ET).
UPDATE: Liverpool overcame their recent form woes with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham. The win came courtesy of Dirk Kuyt who scored the opener in the sixth minute and netted a penalty in stoppage time at the end of the second half.
