Premier League: Liverpool vs. West Ham United
Liverpool will meet West Ham United this afternoon hoping this will be the moment when they recover some of the ground they have already lost in the EPL title race.
Though Rafael Benitez’s side were the second biggest spenders in the league behind the Citizens in the summer, the situation at Anfield has been very similar as the Spaniard has had to sell players to bring in new faces.
Despite winning their last two games, the Reds’ title credentials remain on shaky ground and they can ill afford another slip-up.
Well, they are still favorites in this match. The Hammers have failed to score in their last three meetings with Liverpool and in the corresponding game last season, the Reds won 3-0.
West Ham have defeated Liverpool just once at Upton Park in the last seven meetings and they have not won since the opening day of the Premier League season.
Meanwhile Mexican striker Guillermo Franco will join the Hammers on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Spanish club Villarreal this summer.
Game time is 5:30 p.m. BST (12:30 p.m. ET).
UPDATE: Two goals from striker Fernando Torres gave Liverpool their fifth win in succession against the Hammers. The Reds had twice taken the lead in the first half only to be pulled back by West Ham equalizers.
