Premier League Transfer Speculation
Posted by Guest Contributor
The biggest speculation so far has been confirmed after Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea was confirmed, but there is likely to be plenty more big stories across the Premier League. With three of the top four changing their managers already, some reshaping is likely to be done to the strongest squads, while the others move to strengthen and improve.
The top four
Manchester United have been linked to both Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski in recent days. Dortmund are said to have refused to sanction the sale of Polish striker Lewandowski to Bayern Munich but the Red Devils have been long-term admirers. Nani could be sold, while David Moyes may move to bring in Leighton Baines if Monaco up their chase of Patrice Evra.
The blue half of the city may have wrapped up the signing of Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk but there are likely to more millions spent. A £21 million bid for Real Madrid’s Pepe has been mooted while they also have their eye on Stephan El Shaarawy from AC Milan and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic with Carlos Tevez a possible makeweight in both.
Some fans may feel that the ‘Special One’ is the biggest deal of the summer but on the player front it looks like Edinson Cavani is the number one target at the Bridge. Demba Ba could be sold to fund the deal while Fernando Torres may be offered in a cash plus player deal.
Arsenal are said to be after a striker to lead the line after last season’s to the wire battle with Tottenham for the Champions League. Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and Stevan Jovetic have all been mentioned while Arsene Wenger has been linked with Everton’s Marouane Fellaini for a few summers now.
The best of the rest
Tottenham are in the mix for the signatures of Fulham winger Alex Kacaniklic, FC Twente’s Nacer Chadli and Fredy Guarin but their biggest task is keeping hold of Gareth Bale who has been linked with a world record transfer to Real Madrid. Liverpool are also in for winger Chadli while Carlos Tevez has been mentioned as an ambitious target. With Kolo Toure already signed on, Tiago Illori is another centre-back likely to move to Anfield.
Norwich have their eye on Anfield too, with Jonjo Shelvey an £8 million target while they are also keeping an eye on Gary Hooper. Elsewhere, Andy Carroll is likely to sign permenantly for West Ham, Ola Toivonen is West Brom or Everton bound, Sunderland are fighting off interest for Stephane Sessegnon, Salomon Kalou could be a surprise Cardiff City target and Ian Holloway is looking to raid former club Blackpool for wingers Tom Ince and Matt Phillips.
See the action
With the Premier League coming under scrutiny for having expensive ticket pricing, these transfers could be the latest reasoning for a ticket hike.
