Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger Impresses in DWTS Debut

The new season of “Dancing With the Stars” kicked off today with two contestants known for hitting the dance floor doing as good as they were expected to do. Nicole Scherzinger, dancing a Viennese waltz, delivered a “performance of sparkling finesse,” as judge Bruno Tonioli described it, to earn the best score of the night with 25 points of a possible 30.

The Pussycat Dolls singer was followed by Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek, who accumulated 23 points. As expected, octogenarian and former moonwalker Buzz Aldrin struggled with his cha-cha number to end the opening day at the bottom with 14 points. Also, failing to get the judges’ approval were Aiden Turner and Kate Gosselin, who rounded out the bottom three.

The contestants–who include Pamela Anderson, Jake Pavelka, Erin Andrews, Chad Ochocinco, Shannen Doherty, and Niecy Nash–will have another chance to impress the judges on March 29, before one of them gets a ticket home the next day.
