World Cup 2010 Qualifier: Scotland vs. Macedonia

Scotland cannot afford anything less than a victory against Macedonia this afternoon if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Coach George Burley is certainly more under pressure than his Macedonian counterpart. Apparently, he could be sacked if his squad fails to win.

The Scots currently sit third in their group with seven points, meaning they must win two games to have any chance of grabbing a play-off spot. If they can conjure up a win today then the stage is set for an epic battle against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Scotland’s assistant manager Terry Butcher claims a victory against the Red Lions will be one of his proudest moments in football.

The match kicks-off at 3:00 p.m. BST (10:00 a.m. ET) at Hampden Park.

UPDATE: The Scots kept their World Cup dream alive with a 2-0 win over Macedonia, thanks to second-half goals from Scott Brown and James McFadden .
