World Cup 2010 Qualifier: Spain vs. Belgium

Spain can move a step closer to South Africa with a victory against Belgium in La Coruna tonight. The Spaniards are perfect in Group Five with six wins out of six, but coach Vincent del Bosque believes they cannot take anything for granted when they face the Rode Duivels.

I guess they have finally realized that they are not as invincible as the media made them out to be. Remember their upsetting defeat to the U.S. in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup?

David Silva has also warned his teammates of the threat their opponents will inflict. However, La Roja have an excellent recent record against Belgium of 7 wins and two draws from the last nine clashes.

As for the the Belgians, they must somehow find a way to stop striker David Villa, who has scored 13 goals in as many months and is closing in on Spain’s all-time record goal-scorer Raul.

Game time is 10:00 p.m. CET (4:00 p.m. ET).

UPDATE: David Silva and David Villa scored twice, along with Gerard Pique, as Spain routed Belgium 5-0 to maintain their six-point lead in World Cup Group Five qualifying.
