Randy Quaid Cleared of Felony Charges
Randy and Evi Quaid‘s months-long police drama has finally ended with the controversial couple getting a lenient punishment. Prosecutors decided to drop charges against Randy, but his wife, Evi, was sentenced to a three-year probation plus 240 hours community service after taking responsibility for defrauding an innkeeper last year.
Lawyer Robert Sanger said “the Quaids are pleased with the disposition.” Charges were dropped against the actor after prosecutors found that he was not an active participant in the case, which stemmed from a $10,000 bill at the luxury resort The Biltmore in Santa Barbara. Police records show that the couple tried to pay the bill with an invalid credit card. Senior Deputy District Attorney Arnie Tolks said the bill had been paid.
The Quaids were jailed briefly earlier this week after they missed several court hearings. Randy, who had a supporting role in “Independence Day,” is the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid.
