Randy Quaid, Wife in Trouble Again
Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, were arrested on Saturday after the owner of the guest house the couple has been calling home alerted police of squatters who had been illegally occupying the property.
When police arrived at the property, they found and arrested the Quaids on charges of felony residential burglary and illegal entry of a non-commercial building. The Quaids claimed that they have been the owner of the property since the 1990s. However, a representative of the property owner provided police documents proving that the guest house was bought by the new claimant in 2007 from a person who had purchased it from the Quaids several years earlier.
The Quaids were ordered to pay $50,000 each for their temporary liberty. The arrest comes about a year since the couple was charged with defrauding an innkeeper at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito. Randy Quaid was later absolved of the felony charges but his wife pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of defrauding the innkeeper of more than $10,000 with the use of a fake credit card. Evi was sentenced to three years’ probation and 240 hours of community service.
