Gucci Mane may have escaped jail in his latest run-in with the law, but the rapper will not go unpunished as a Georgia judge has ordered him locked up at a psychiatric ward.
Mane was ordered sent to a psychiatric hospital after his lawyers pleaded that the 30-year-old hip-hop artist was not mentally capable of competently proceeding with his trial for a possible violation of probation. In filing for a Special Plea of Mental Incompetency, Mane’s lawyers claimed that their client is incapable of going “forward and/or intelligently participate in the probation revocation hearing.”
Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, was arrested in November last year in a driving incident, although the charges were later dropped. However, he was sent to trial for possible violation of probation in a past conviction.
Although Mane’s mental incompetency plea is still being considered, the Superior Court of Georgia Fulton County judge handling his case ordered the rapper to be confined at a hospital that is described in its website as “an 111-bed psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment facility,” EW.com said in a report.
