Rare comic of Spider-Man debut fetches $1.1 million at auction
A very rare copy of Amazing Fantasy was sold to an anonymous buyer on Tuesday for $1.1 million. The transaction was done by auction site ComicConnect.com.
The 1962 issue of the Marvel comic book, in near-mint condition, features Spider-Man swinging by a web on its cover and originally cost 12 cents.
This isn’t, however, the highest price paid for a comic book. That honor goes to Action Comics No. 1 with Superman on the cover, which went for a whopping $1.5 million. But Stephen Fishler, CEO of ComicConnect.com, says the price paid is the most for a Silver Age era book, the mid-1950s to about 1970.
Fishler said: “People have often wondered how much this near-perfect condition book would sell for, and today we found out.”
