Report: Deron Williams Headed to New Jersey

The Utah Jazz have parted ways with Deron Williams, trading the All-Star point guard to the New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris and Derrick Favors, ESPN said in a report.

The trade, which is expected to be officially announced on Wednesday, marks the departure of another significant member of the Jazz in the past several weeks. Earlier, Jerry Sloan resigned as head coach, saying he no longer had the fire inside him to continue leading the team. Some reports pointed to an argument with Williams as the last straw that pushed Sloan to end his long career with the Jazz. “Maybe arguing was the last straw,” Williams said. “But I think anybody who believes I could force coach Sloan to resign is crazy. He’s stronger than that and personally if I said that to him, he’d probably go tell me to go do something.”

Williams, who has made it to the last two All-Star games, is averaging close to a double-double this season with 21.3 points and 9.7 assists to go with 1.2 steals and 3.9 rebounds.
