The Chicago Bulls are making some significant changes in an effort to become a major player in the free agency, which may include the likes of LeBron James, Dwane Wayde, and Chris Bosh. ESPN, citing a source with knowledge of the Bulls’ off-season plans, reported that Chicago is looking to trade Kirk Hinrich to free up $9 million in salary cap room.

The source claims that Bulls want to trade Hinrich to the Wizards, who chose Kentucky point guard John Wall as the No.1 pick in the recently concluded NBA Draft. Aside from Hinrich, the Wizards might also get the Bulls’ 17th pick, Kevin Seraphin.

The Bulls refused to confirm the trade rumors as they are not authorized to complete a trade until July 8, when the moratorium ends. Chicago, which already has star point guard Derrick Rose, is looking to snag one or two high-profile free agents. The Bulls can go at least $30 million under the salary cap if they can trade Hinrich, who played the last seven seasons in Chicago with a 13.4-point average.

Earlier this year, the Bulls fired coach Vinny Del Negro after getting knocked out of the first round of the playoffs for the second-straight season. Former Boston Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau will coach the Bulls in the coming season.
