Reports Indicate iPhone5 is in the Works

Reports indicate that Apple will be making a version of its popular touchscreen smartphone, the iPhone, for Verizon Wireless, the biggest US carrier by subscribers.

If the report is confirmed it will mean several things including the end of the exclusive arrangement of Apple with its current carrier AT&T and that it will put the phone in a more direct competition with Google-based phones.

Wall Street Journal reports that the new phone will resemble the current latest version but will be using an alternative wireless technology by Verizon. It also said that Verizon Wireless has been meeting with Apple for capacity and testing matters, an issue that plagued AT&T when iPhone users overwhelmed its network due to the unit’s data-hungry capabilities.

Meanwhile, Verizon Communications Inc. declined to comment. Company President Lowell McAdam simply said Wednesday that, “At some point our business interests are going to align. I fully expect it, but I don’t have anything to say.”

Now, how about rumors of a possible iPad 2? Like whether there would be camera and USB ports perhaps?
