Australian Open Quarterfinals: Andy Roddick vs. Marin Cilic
American Andy Roddick will battle it out against Marin Cilic of Crotia for the Men’s quarterfinal match in 2010 Australian Open at the Rod Laver Arena Tuesday, January 26.
The 7th seed Roddick survived his fourth round game on Sunday beating Chilean Fernando Gonzales in a game that lasted four sets 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Cilic on the other hand is seeded number 14 coming in this year’s Australian Open. The 31-year-old Croatian proved that he is worthy for a quarterfinal match after beating the defending US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina. Their game lasted for four hours in five tough sets, 5-7 6-4 7-5 5-7 6-3.
The two netters only played twice in their careers. Andy Roddick won their first meeting at Queens, New York in 2007 while Cilic got his revenge in the 2008 Canadian Masters.
Roddick holds the experience factor in this match because he has been in this situation in Melbourne four times but always failed to finish strong in the semifinals.
UPDATE: Roddick made a painful exit at Melbourne Park, playing with an injured shoulder for five sets before losing to Cilic 7-6 (4), 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3.
