Sebastian Vettel Takes Turkish Grand Prix Pole
Defending world champion Sebastian Vettel bucked a crash during the practice round a day earlier to set the best time in qualifying Saturday at the Formula One Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul.
Vettel, who crashed his Red Bull car during the rain-hit practice Friday, clocked in at 1 minute and 25.049 seconds to edge teammate Mark Webber for the number one spot on the grid. It was the fourth pole win for Vettel in as many races this season, putting him in good position to snatch his third title. “Straight away I felt comfortable in the car, felt the rhythm of the track very quickly,” Vettel said.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes will start behind the two Red Bulls on Sunday after registering a best lap of 1:25.574. Rosberg, who is fresh from earning his first points of the season after a 5th-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix on April 17, will be followed by Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
