Serena Williams Advances to Wimbledon 4th Round
Serena Williams moved another step closer to retaining her Wimbledon singles crown on Saturday with a straight-sets victory over Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, 6-0, 7-5.
Williams started with aplomb on center court, winning all but six of the 31 points scored in the first set. The defending champion served up six aces in the first set, which lasted only 18 minutes. Williams, a three-time winner at the All England Club, would face former champion Maria Sharapova in the fourth round if the Russian star handles Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
In the men’s draw, French Open finalist Robin Soderling moved into the fourth round with a 6-4, 6-2, 7-5, win over Thomas Bellucci of Brazil. Soderling, who has yet to lose a set at Wimbledon this year, set up a possible clash with ninth seed David Ferrer.
In other matches, seventh seed Agnieszka Radwanska dumped Sara Errani, 6-3, 6-1, while 14th seed Victoria Azarenka was eliminated by Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, 7-5. 6-0.
