Defending U.S. Open Champion Serena Williams lost her composure Saturday night during a semi-final match against Kim Clijsters at the Ashe Stadium.

Clijsters was leading the 2nd set 6-5 when Williams was called for a foot fault that put her down 15-40.

Williams was pissed by the call and walked over to the lineswoman then cursed her out along with pointing and raising her racket. The 27-year-old had already been penalized for smashing her racket after losing the first set 6-4.

The lineswoman was called by the chair umpire to report what Serena said to her. Tournament referee Brian Earley soon appeared and called the match win by default. Clijsters won 6-4, 7-5!

2005 champion Clijsters will now take on Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark in the final.

Clijsters was going to win, anyway, but it's a shame she wasn't allowed her well-deserved moment of glory. On the other hand, it makes me wonder whether Serena, knowing that defeat was nigh, decided to steal the limelight for now and all eternity by throwing a hissy fit, not once, but twice! Let's face it, this is a huge part of US Open (or any tennis, for that matter) history, perhaps outdoing John McEnroe's infamous outbursts, to the point that it'll be shown on every network for at least a day or two (undoubtedly, Serena will be facing fines from the USTA, WTA, and, possibly, ITF), and, of course, in retrospectives shown, ad nauseum, on TV and the web!
