Serie A: AC Milan vs. Genoa

Former England captain David Beckham is back in Italy for a second loan spell and could play for AC Milan against Genoa at the San Siro this evening.

His chances of a start in his first game for the Italian giants have been increased by minor injuries to Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo, which could rule them out.

The Los Angeles Galaxy star is hoping the switch can boost his chances of making Fabio Capello’s final squad for the World Cup but Beckham also wants to mark his time in Serie A with a trophy.

“I am happy to return to play with AC Milan,” said the 34-year-old midfielder. “I am looking forward to helping the team do well.”

Under former boss Carlo Ancelotti, Becks made 20 appearances for the Rossoneri last season and Leonardo has revealed he values the playmaker as highly as the current Chelsea manager did.

UPDATE: Beckham replaced the injured Alexandre Pato in the starting line-up and played for 76 minutes during his side’s insistent 5-2 home win over Genoa. Milan moved to 34 points, eight behind leaders Inter.
