Charlie Simpson of Fulham in London has initially planned to pedal five his bicycle for five miles around the local park for only 500 pounds. He announced his intention from his JustGiving website. The media covered the event and his plea has moved the hearts of people around the world. The money compiled then to 100,000 pounds – and it is still counting.

He started out with this simple message: “My name is Charlie Simpson, I want to do a sponsored bike ride for Haiti because there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives. I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti.”

His father Dan joined him while his mother Leonora and sister Alice cheered him on. Leonora said proudly that his son thought of the idea all on his own.

The young man will be donating the money to the  UNICEF’s Haiti Earthquake Children’s Appeal.
