Shooting reported on Harvard campus
A man was shot near a Harvard University residence hall Monday afternoon and police are now combing the area searching for evidence.
Authorities said the shooting, outside Kirkland House at Dunster and Mount Auburn streets, occurred about 5 p.m. The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to a nearby hospital. It was not immediately clear whether he was a student.
Initial reports suggested he had survived and is now in stable condition.
After the incident, an e-mail was sent to Harvard students by Kirkland House administrators informing them of what happened.
Harvard Police blocked off streets near the crime scene and University officials asked students to report unusual activity to the authorities.
