Slipknot Bassist Found Dead

Slipknot bassist Paul Gray is dead. An employee of the Town Plaza Hotel in Iowa found the body of the 38-year-old rock star, reports said. Initial investigation did not indicate foul play in Gray’s death, police said.

A representative at Roadrunner Records, the band’s record company, confirmed Gray’s death but refused to give other information. Police said an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday to determine the bassist’s death.

Des Moines rock station music director Andy Hall, who had known Gray for a longtime, said the bassist was a big loss to the community. Gray, like most of Slipknot, grew up in Des Moines. “This is a big blow, not only to the community of Des Moines but fans of metal at large, worldwide,” Hall said.

Slipknot is a metal band known for the grotesque masks that members wear, as well as for agressive lyrics and music. The band, which debuted in 1999, won the best metal performance at the 2006 Grammy Awards.
