“So You Think You Can Dance” Winner Chosen

An 18-year-old from Phoenix has been picked as this year’s winner of “So You Think You Can Dance” in the show’s live finale on Thursday.

Contemporary jazz specialist Lauren Froderman, who just recently graduated high school, won the top prize of $250,000 over Kent Boyd of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Robert Roldan of Thousand Oaks, California. Froderman also proved to be a hit among the viewers as she received the “America’s Favorite Dancer” award.

Boyd was widely considered the best all-around dancer among the seventh-season contestants, as she seamlessly adapted other dancing styles like hip-hop, ballroom, and even Bollywood routines. Boyd also showed professionalism and poise when she recovered from a wardrobe malfunction early in the competition when the strap of her dress broke while performing a Broadway number.

Aside from performances by the remaining contenders, the finale also featured a duet between former “American Idol” judge Ellen DeGeneres and Stephen “tWitch” Boss.
