Soderling slays Federer in French Open quarterfinals
Robin Soderling defeated defending champion and 16-time Grand Slam title winner Roger Federer, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4, to reach the semi-finals of the 2010 French Open.
Soderling, 25, broke serve twice in the decider and never faltered as he clinched victory on his first match point when the Swiss Maestro hit a forehand long.
The upset was the second pulled off by the Swedish fifth seed in as many years in Paris. Last year, he became the first man to beat Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros, ending the four-time champion’s reign on ‘Red Dirt’.
Soderling will meet Tomas Berdych in the last four after the Czech ace beat Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.
