South African runner Caster Semenya has been ordered to undergo gender verification test
South African runner Caster Semenya has been ordered to undergo a gender verification test to prove that she is really a “she”. Officials from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) asked her to go through the assessment before she won the gold in the 800m at the world championships in Berlin. The organization said they required the 18-year-old to take the exam three weeks ago, according to Daily Mail.
The teenage sensation has sparked controversy over her strikingly muscular physique.
Semenya won gold in the 800m at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics with a time of 1:55.45 in the final, a personal best and the fastest time in the world.
