South Dakota Town on Sale for Less Than $800,000
If you’re one of those guys who are impervious to the economic crunch everyone else is feeling, then you might want to spend a small chunk of your wealth to buy an entire South Dakota town.
The town of Scenic, S.D., is up for grabs for $799,000. According to Lee Ann Keester, daughter of owner Twila Merrill, the family is selling the 347.6-square-kilometer property to cover for her mother’s medical expenses. Merrill is suffering from cancer. “It’s bittersweet,” Keester said. “I have to take care of my mom. Family always comes first… But it’s just time, everything comes with time… [My mom] would love to do it until she’s 100, but her health won’t permit her.”
The $799,000 price tag comes with all the buildings and establishments located in the town, which is an unincorporated community but assigned its own zip code of 57780. According to ABC News, the lucky buyer will also become the owner of a dance hall, a train depot, two jails, a saloon, and a number of run-down buildings.
