Sphynx cats enjoying huge recognition as pets
They are sometimes mistaken for a Chihuahua. It could be because of its “un-cat-like” form. Or it could be because this rare breed of cat has practically no hair.
The weird-looking, some say horrible cat breed, the Sphynx, has been enjoying huge popularity as a pet. With an appearance that wavers between pitifully cute and diabolically mean, the breed is quite responsive and sociable, often seeking out humans to cuddle with and keep warm.
The first Sphynx was born in 1966 as the result of a genetic mutation. They’re in high demand now, with breeders often having a long waiting list for kittens. Sphynx kittens usually cost from between $1,000 – $1,500 in the US.
Sphynx are a very clever breed of cat. If they have been properly socialized as kittens they are extremely friendly and people-oriented, to the point of following you around the house and wanting to be involved in everything that goes on. They have an outgoing personality and love attention, often times demanding it!
Despite all the criticism of the Sphynx, it has one definite advantage – those who are allergic to cat hair usually find that they can tolerate being with a Sphynx. So this breed is perfect for allergic cat lovers.
The cat’s hairless condition needs a special kind of care different from how you would normally care for common cats. When taking care of a Sphynx, always take into consideration that it has very little or no hair to protect it from the environment.
If you’re a Star Wars fan you’ll probably like this breed coz there’s something Yoda-esque about them. These cats are cute but creepy at the same time. They kinda freak me out!
