Steve Carell Says He is Leaving ‘The Office’
Actor and comedian Steve Carell is leaving his hit show The Office.
“Yes, it will be my last,” said Carell, 47, to UsMagazine.com during the premiere of the film Despicable Me, where he lends his voice for the character Gru, last Sunday, June 27, in Hollywood.
“I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.”
The actor plays the character Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott, a role that earned him a Golden Globe Award and four Primetime Emmy nominations.
The NBC show is expected to continue despite his absence.
Carell said that he wanted to spend more time with his family. He is married to his wife Nancy and they have two children, Elisabeth Anne, 9, and John, 6.
The Office is an adaptation of a British television series of the same name.
