Strikeforce: Roger Gracie Defeats Kevin Randleman
Roger Gracie had an impressive Strikeforce debut, beating veteran Kevin Randleman at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Former UFC heavyweight champion Randleman kept Gracie at bay in the first round, by engaging the rookie in a toe-to-toe fight. Gracie closed out the first round with a punch but Randleman answered with three of his own.
The second round was a different story, though, as Gracie took control of the fight with knee attacks that had Randleman reeling. Gracie, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert, knocked down Randleman with a strong knee. With Randleman down on the floor, Gracie tried an arm triangle maneuver. Randleman was able to wriggle his way of the arm triangle but not Gracie’s next attack. Seizing his advantage, Gracie worked his way to a rear naked choke, forcing Randleman to tap out. The referee called off the fight at the 4:10 mark of the second round.
Gracie, a member of the famous Gracie family, now has a perfect 3-0 mixed martial arts record. While Gracie is slowly building up his MMA career, Randleman is going in the opposite direction. The loss was the third-in-a-row for Randleman, whose record dropped to 17 wins and 15 losses.
