Schwartz’s three-liner was twitted Wednesday, February 3. It signaled the end of an era for Sun Microsystems. It has been a week after it was formally absorbed by Oracle. McNealy sent his memo last week.

Oracle acquiesced Sun for an amount of 7.4 billion dollars. “Java is the single most important software asset we have ever acquired,” said Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle.

Sun started having problems after the emergence of free software. Its financial status took a further beating during the great recession and long regulatory review processes.
