Superman Comic Book Sold for $1.5 Million
The record price for a comic book has been shattered for the third time this year after a 1938 edition copy of Superman‘s debut fetched 1.5 million dollars.
Website ComicConnect.com sold Monday, March 29 a copy of the 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1 where the story of Superman was first featured. In 1938, it was being sold at 10 cents.
The edition is considered the Holy Grail for comic books. Another copy of the edition was sold last February for one million dollars setting the first record this year. A few days later a 1939 comic book was sold at an auction in Dallas for 1,075,000 dollars setting the second record this year.
The copy sold last Monday, which is in better condition than the one sold last month, was bought by the owners of ComicConnect.com from a private collector. The owners also refused to name the buyer.
The record breaking comic book was left unnoticed inside an old movie magazine for 50 years.
