Microsoft adds Facebook-like features to Live.com

Microsoft announced Thursday it has overhauled its Live.com search site to include some of the social networking features made famous by companies like Facebook.
Windows Live users will be able to let people they’ve designated as “friends” see activities they are doing in other Web applications through Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger and other Live applications and services, said Chris Jones, corporate vice president of Windows Live at Microsoft.

bgC3: Bill Gates got himself a new company

We all know that Bill Gates waved goodbye at Microsoft and passed his thrown to Steve Ballmer as CEO just few months ago. But our old man can’t get his butt off the office. He was quietly creating a new venture called bgC3.
The company was originally called Carillon Holdings and was established on March 2008. The bgC3 name came up just this July, a few days after he left the top spot at Microsoft.

Windows 7 is now official

Corporate Vice President of Windows Product Management Mike Nash announced via a blog post that Microsoft’s next version of Windows will retain its moniker “Windows 7”.
“But now is a good time to announce that we’ve decided to officially call the next version of Windows, Windows 7.” Nash wrote on his blog.
Nash said that they chose Window 7 as the official name for the product because of simplicity. He explained that they have used inspirational monikers (XP, Vista) and dates (Windows 98, 2000) for their recent releases. And since new versions …

New software turns PC into TiVo TV recorder

TiVo Inc. and Nero AG of Germany were set to declare Monday that they will be launching a package that turns a Windows PC into a TV recorder, just like a TiVo set-top box.
