Over 60,000 people filled the stadium in Vancouver to witness the first ever Olympic opening or closing ceremony to be held indoors. The audience and athletes also paid their respect to Nodar Kumaritashvili.
Kumaritashvili, 21, lost control of his sled and collided with an unpadded metal post while training at the Whistler Sliding Center. He lost control on the final bend of the track and was launched over the lip of the path before colliding with a pillar at 144 kilometers per hour.
