Teen burglar kills goldfish to get rid of ‘witnesses’
Three pet fish were poisoned by a teenager during his heist because he “didn’t want to leave any witnesses” to the crime, police in Arlington Heights, Illinois have revealed.
The unnamed 16-year-old boy, who broke into a home in the Chicago suburb with two accomplices, is facing residential burglary charges and cruelty to animals for his role in a January 24 break-in. The accomplices, both minors, also face burglary charges. All three will be tried in juvenile court.
According to cops, the teenager killed the family’s three goldfish by pouring hot sauce, mustard, ketchup and spices into their tank. Various electronic equipment, jewelry and personal papers and photographs were stolen from the house. The boys allegedly targeted the home because it had been evacuated following a January 19 fire.
