Television Series 24 To End This Coming May
24 will be ending its run on May 24 after eight seasons, Fox confirms. A film is in the works to be produced sending character Jack Bauer to Europe.
Star Keifer Sutherland also confirmed to EW.com that a ninth season, even if it will be in another network, is no longer an option as he and executive producer Howard Gordon are ready to hang up the gloves.
Asked about what will happen to Bauer by the time the series ends, Sutherland commented that, “We wanted to create a definite end for Jack Bauer. Since we do have the intention to make the feature film, it would lead into that and certainly set that up.”
Factors that led to the demise of the series include budget issues, declining ratings and running out of stories. Key players involved in the production like Sutherland have contracts expiring. Ratings dropped by 16%. Writers cannot come up anymore with stories that are possible to really happen for a ninth set of 24 hours.
The show won as Best Drama Series while Sutherland won Best Actor in a Drama Series from the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2006.
