Texas Tech Coach Leach Suspended
Michael “Mike” Leach was suspended as coach of the Texas Tech University Red Raiders football team. The suspension is in effect while the university investigates the complaints of a player and his parents for mistreating him.
Adam James complained that the coach confined him in an equipment room and in an electrical closet during two separate practice sessions. James has suffered a mild concussion during practice last December 16.
James’ parents insisted that Leach’s actions were “not consistent with common sense rules for safety and healthy.” James’s father is Craig James who was a professional football player for the New England Patriots and Washington Federals. He is now an ESPN commentator and analyst.
The coach has not released any statements regarding the complaints.
Defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeil was named interim head coach while the investigation is ongoing and will lead the team in the upcoming 2010 Alamo Bowl against Michigan State Spartans.
