The Barclays: Kuchar Wins in Playoff; Woods Finishes Strong

Matt Kuchar sizzled with a 5-under 66 in the fourth round at The Barclays to force a playoff with third-round leader Martin Laird, who struggled with an even-par 71 on Sunday.

Kuchar then birdied the first playoff hole while Laird settled for a par in the par-4 18th hole to win the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs held at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey. Kuchar is projected to move up to first place in the FedEx Cup points race after the sensational win, while Laird could rise as high as no.3.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods ensured his ticket to the next playoff event next week with a strong fourth-round showing. Woods, who started the day outside the top 100 players who would move on to the Deutsche Bank Championship, fired a 4-under 67 to finish tied for 12th place with a 7-under 277 total, five strokes off Kuchar and Laird. Woods’ strong finish allowed him to move up to no.65 in the FedEx Cup ranking and earn a ticket to the Deutsche Bank Championship, whose proceeds goes to his charity.
