The Hobbit Films Release Dates Announced
Yes, you’re reading it right, films, with an “s”.
After confusion that led to conflicting reports on what is the actual release dates of the anticipated prequel and follow-up movie to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit part 1 will hit theaters on December 2012 while the concluding The Hobbit part 2 will be shown on December 2013.
The confusion arose when IMAX announced a 20-film, three year deal with Warner Brothers. Their information said that the first film will be released on December 2013 confusing it for the second part.
When the adaptation was announced in 2007, the studio projected a 2011 release. However, it reversed its decision after deciding that such a target is not realistic.
Confirmed actors for the films are Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Andy Serkis as Gollum and Hugo Weaving as Elrond. Cate Blanchett is expected to reprise her role as Galadriel.
The other films that are included in the IMAX-Warner Brothers deal are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows parts 1 and 2, Happy Feet 2, a third Batman and the currently being developed reboot of Superman.
